Keeping Texas Waterways Clean & Beautiful

By February 23, 2018November 21st, 2023No Comments

Tired of watching trash float down your local stream instead of fish? Do you avoid the beach because there is more than just sand between your toes? (Cigarette butts, yuck!) Check out our Keep Texas Waterways Clean (KTWC) program and help clean it up!

Aquatic trash is not only unsightly, it can travel for miles, into larger bodies of water and even all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. It can be deadly, often mistaken for food by animals or causing entanglement and injury. During 2017, communities all over Texas held water based cleanups on the Gulf Coast, rivers, lakes, creeks and other precious aquatic areas. In total, over 11,000 volunteers put in 36,000 hours removing 310,000 lbs of trash and debris. Wow! We love that!

Interested affiliates and community groups can get involved and add to these numbers by putting on a KTWC cleanup of their own.Visit us at to sign up for a supply kit that includes trash and recycle bags, gloves and a few special items only found in the KTWC kit. In addition to your basic supplies, the KTWC kit also includes sunscreen, bug spray, poison ivy kits, mesh bags and everyone’s favorite cleanup accessory…litter grabbers! It also includes marketing pieces such as customizable posters and social media cards to advertise your event. Our goal is to give you as many tools as possible for a successful event. On our website you can find sample press releases, social media guidelines, logos, fact sheets and more.

This program is open to anyone within 30 miles of an HEB or Central Market. All we ask is that you fill out our easy, online wrap up report following your event. We appreciate our community sponsors, such as HEB/Central Market. We could not provide you guys with the volume and variety of supplies without their support.
