Keep Texas Recycling (KTR)
Our Keep Texas Recycling (KTR) program provides a variety of services that increase recycling opportunities throughout the state of Texas.
Rural Recycling Cooperative
Since 1994, KTR’s main focus has been cooperative opportunities for recycling in rural and underserved communities.
Currently, KTR has 50 entities within the cooperative that include civic groups, private industry, military bases, government entities, and school districts. Members of the cooperative benefit from KTR’s services which include:
- Consultation on the implementation or improvement of a recycling program
- Contract negotiations with end-markets, community outreach
- Grant writing services
In the last 30 years, Keep Texas Recycling community partners have recycled over 330 million pounds of material. This has generated over $12.3 million in revenue for these communities and saved 550,000 cubic yards of landfill space and over $5.8 million in landfill fees!
KTR has worked with a variety of entities to increase recycling opportunities.
This work has focused on specific commodities, hard-to-recycle items and how to improve current recycling operations through proven efficiency strategies. Projects also include public awareness campaigns focused on increasing volume of items recycled and decreasing contamination. Partnerships between national organizations, brands and government entities have helped KTR expand collection sites and items collected at these sites, which has been vital to increasing recycling access in Texas.
