We’ll hear from our hosts to kick off the day. Introduce yourself and say hello to fellow affiliates, KTB staff, and community leaders. Get ready for a day full of ideas, collaboration, and Texas-sized inspiration.

Beyond Books: Growing Community Through Seed Libraries
Mallory Sanchez, Texas Master Naturalist
Learn about the growing network of seed libraries in West Texas libraries. Through examples from West Texas, this session explores how seed libraries work, why libraries are natural community partners, and how these collaborations support conservation, education, and community engagement while making gardening resources more accessible.

A crash course in all things KTB—programs, resources, and ways affiliates can amplify their local impact through statewide initiatives.

Grab a bite and connect with fellow attendees. Share wins, swap ideas, and meet new collaborators over lunch.

What’s in the Bag? Litter Sample Demonstration
See how to collect, categorize, and record litter data for your community using KTB tools. Hands-on learning that turns trash into insight! This will be a hands-on activity that will include an outdoor cleanup, so wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather!

1:30 PM – 2:00 PM
Reduce, Reuse, Reinvent: The Evolution of Plainview Recycling
Brocke Lively, City of Plainview
Learn about the successes and failures of Plainview’s recycling program, including successes and failures, and how they’ve adapted their strategies over the years to adapt to changing marketplaces. You’ll learn about massive changes to their programs, and some of their more unique ideas, such as their water meter recyling program, that helped their program get national attention and helped revitalize community knowledge of their programs.
