Keep Paris Beautiful: Don’t Mess with Paris Texas Trashoff
On Saturday, April 15th, our community will come together to make Paris an even more beautiful and inviting city. As part of the statewide “Don’t Mess with Texas Trash Off” April cleanup program, over 200 volunteers are expected to take to Paris neighborhoods, parks, and local waterways to pick up litter. The City of Paris, and Keep Paris Beautiful are organizing the event, but the real heroes will be the volunteers who step up, and the event sponsors who fund the project.
The event will kick off at the Love Civic Center Pavilion at 8 am, with the introductions of teams and sponsors, safety instructions, and a group photo. Each volunteer will receive a free event t-shirt, safety vest, gloves, grabber, trash bags, bottled water, and other necessary equipment. The teams will be dispatched to specific areas around town in need of attention, where they’ll spend one to three hours collecting trash. Once finished, the teams will return to the Pavilion for a free hot dog lunch and refreshments, and to celebrate a job well done. Recognitions will be made for the teams that picked up the most trash, the most unusual finds, the teams with the most volunteers, etc.
“This is a very generous community, and we’re thrilled at the businesses and teams who have already stepped up to the plate to participate” says Mayor Paula Portugal. “We look forward to hearing from even more groups in town who want to want to be part of this fun day.”
This is an ideal opportunity for folks of all ages, representing local athletic teams, professional organizations, businesses, school clubs, church groups, non-profits, neighborhood associations, etc., to demonstrate their pride in our hometown. If your group wants to field a team, or if your business would like to be a $250 event sponsor, please contact Assistant City Manager Robert Vine at 903-784-9216 or rvine@paristexas.gov, or Keep Paris Beautiful Chair Julia Trigg Crawford at redarcfarm@gmail.com. Online team and sponsor sign up forms are available at www.paristexas.gov/trashoff. For more information, check out the City of Paris-Municipality, and Keep Paris Beautiful Facebook pages.
In the event of inclement weather on April 15th, the event will be rescheduled for April 29th.
