Sandy Schmidt

June 2010

Sandy has been the chairman of Keep Katy Beautiful for the past six years and is truly the ultimate volunteer and chairman. She is the person every affiliate dreams of to lead their grassroots efforts. Born and raised in Katy, Sandy is more than familiar with the history of her community, and brims with love for the area and its citizens. She always knows who to call on when KKB is preparing for an event, and can always locate volunteers ready to participate in a cleanup – in part because she drives the city constantly making contacts with the citizens. She also takes the time to note public nuisance issues, such as inoperable streetlights. Sandy never misses an event, a cleanup or a KKB meeting, and gets an ‘A’ in creativity, having come up with an array of clever ideas for the community to utilize and rally around. One example is Katy’s annual FestiviTrees event, which she developed in order to encourage local businesses to practice the Three Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle. The event challenges businesses to create trees out of items recycled from their offices and professional dealings; local citizens ultimately vote and the ‘Best in Show’ is crowned!

Sandy has a strong vision for Keep Katy Beautiful, as well as the city itself, and has set goals for KKB toward which she constantly works. Her love for the community and her dreams of the future make her a great chairman and leader for Keep Katy Beautiful. KKB and KTB wish to congratulate Sandy for all she has done, and will continue to do, to keep Texas beautiful!
