Sharla Hotchkiss

March 2010

Sharla began her career with Keep Midland Beautiful in 1986 as its executive director. After being a dynamic force for change, she retired from KMB’s leadership – but she was far from idle. In fact, Sharla became even more active in the environmental improvement of both Midland and Texas!

As a hands-on volunteer, she has helped clear nearly 30 bags of pruning and leaves from Liberty Garden, and has played a key role in the planning Great American Cleanup events around the Midland area. She and husband Bart also frequently open their home and beautiful yard to the community and to KMB for celebrations and special VIP breakfasts.

While no stranger to getting her hands dirty, Sharla is also a positive influence in other areas as well. She currently sits on the board of directors for Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep Midland Beautiful, having previously served as president at some point of each organization. She was honored in 2001 with the Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson Achievement Award, and recently chaired the KMB Annual Appreciation Luncheon, arranging for Congressman Mike Conaway (R-TX) to be keynote speaker.

Sharla is passionate about anything and everything that will educate and engage Midlanders and Texans to beautify their communities, recycle and prevent litter. According to those who know her, she could be the volunteer of the month EVERY month – but March will have to do. KMB and KTB wish to congratulate Sharla for all she has done, and will continue to do, to keep Texas beautiful!
