Dixie has been a diligent member of Keep Katy Beautiful for nearly 10 years and serves as chairman of the board’s Paint-A-Plug program, the goal of which is to have the fire hydrants in the city painted and updated. She directs volunteers through her work as chairman but goes above and beyond her call as a KKB member: she regularly and consistently attends events, city council meetings, board meetings and Keep Texas Beautiful conferences. She also attends the array of Paint-A-Plug events that take place in Katy, and handles the acquisition of paint, gloves and scraping materials for each organization that is planning to paint a hydrant. Moreover, she documents the locations of each fireplug scheduled to be painted, knows the location of each new hydrant the city installs and works closely with various groups to ensure all new, Katy-area subdivisions have their fire hydrants painted.
But Dixie’s efforts are far from one-sided; she also works with fire officials on paint color, reflectivity standards and uniformity, to ensure both the safety of Katy’s citizens and a quick response time for emergency crews.
Keep Katy Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful extend a huge thanks to Dixie for taking on this task and handling every detail of such an important safety initiative for the community!
